3D Text with central vanishing point |
|
Page 1 of 2 The above image is what this tutorial will show you how to create. The main Objective in this is to have the text travel toward a central vanishing point opposed to off to the side. Most 3D texts created in photoshop use a technique which makes it apear as you are looking at the side. Here we will create depth but the view will be from the front and not side, which in my opinion is a more realistic view.
| Step 1: Create a new doc in the 600x600px size range and fill it or gradientize, or patternize it any way you wish. Now type some nice big text in a color that is visible on the background you have created. | | Step 2: Duplicate the text layer and move it under the initial text layer. Turn the opacity on this layer down to 0% and double click the layer to enter the blending options. Add a stroke of 2px to the inside of the layer and make the stroke a gradient fill of black to white. Simply copy the settings in the image to the right.
| | | Step 3: Hide the initial text layer which should reveal the stroked layer you just created. In the layers list click the visible stroke layer and click layer-->rasterize-->text. Now duplicate this layer so you have 2 stroked layers. At this point your stage should look like the image to the right, with 4 total layers, bottom to top: background...stroked 1...stroked 2...text. (the red cross is a foux vanishing point which your document wont need, just thought it would b nice to show what we are aiming for) | | Step 4: The fun part: click on the layer right under the text layer, should be the duplicate of the stroked layer. Holding alt press the arrows on your keyboard in the following order up,left,up,left,up,left,up,left,up,left. Now on the layer below it, the initial stroked layer, do the same thing but in the opposite direction... Hold alt and press the arrows in the following order: up,right,up,right,up,right,up,right,up,right. Now with the top text layer still hidden your document should look like the mess in the image to the right. | | You can now unhide the top text layer to help visualize the image. With the top text layer highlighted pull a ruler across from the left and let it come to rest at the exact center of the top text layer. Your stage should now look like the image to the right.
